Mr. Ravindra Mohan Chopra, M.A., LL.B., was born on 14 January, 1934 at Hafizabad, District Gujranwala, West Punjab. He is a worthy son, inheriting literary disposition from his talented father Late Dr. HiraLall Chopra, M.A., (Punjab), D. Litt. (Tehran). Mr. Chopra had a brilliant academic career throughout culminating in his getting First-Class First in M.A., in Islamic History of Culture, from Calcutta University in 1956. His love for things Punjabi and fondness for Punjabiyat is proverbial. He is a prolific writer and has contributed many articles in Indian and foreign journals on topics of general interest. He has authored over a dozen learned books in which are The Legacy of the Punjab, The Punjab and Bengal, Great Sufi Poets of the Punjab and The Philosophical and Religious Thought of Sikhism. etc. His writing is free-flowing, deeply absorbing, eminently readable and a voyage of learning; it brings elegance, ease and sweetness. In the collection of articles in this book, Mr. Chopra has given insight into the prominent features of Sikhism and glorious achievements of the Sikhs and how the teachings of the divine Gurus provide gems of wisdom, moral strength and profound spiritualism which brings peace and tranquillity upon mind and spirit.
As most of the copies of the first edition of the book were sold and distributed to various centres of Sikh studies in India and abroad, an acute shortage for supply of the book was being felt overall which has necessitated publication of the second edition. The second edition, duly revised, has now been published which, it is hoped, will meet the demand of many scholars, students and centers of Sikh studies.
