Iconography means not merely the mechanical description and identification of an image but also the study of various aspects, which lead to the growth of cult.
The worship of Icons originated right from prehistoric period- The excavation of Mohan Jodaro and Harappa substantiate to this fact.
It is a critical study of geometrical patterns of Icons of different sects of various dynasties of ancient India. Besides this, it enables us to visualize with the idea of anatomical details of human body.
Dr Ajai Pal Singh was born in 1933 in the village Paharipur, Kankhat, District Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his high school and Intermediate from D. N. College Tirwa Farrukhabad. He graduated in Science from Allahabad University. He took his M.A. Degree in Ancient History from Vikram University, Ujjain and completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Museology from Bhopal University, Bhopal.
The present critical study of geometrical patterns of Icons of different sects of various dynasties of ancient India, is an humble attempt being contemplated by me for the first time. It is beyond my sacred and pleasant task to acknowledge the help I received in the execution of this book. Shri Shiv Pal Singh my eldest son, carried out the photography of Icons and other objects The layout was prepared by Dr. Harpal Singh my yonger son, Dr. Apurva D. Yadav and Akriti Yadav and Dr. Bhuvan Singh also were helpful to me. I thank them.
