Geology embraces a general survey of the origin of the earth, it is surface features like the formation of crust and its structures, it is vital gradation and progress, commencement of life on earth, its order of appearance, and evolution of several forms of life. Though there does not exist any comprehensive treatise on the subject in Sanskrit, quite a few stray notes, fragmentary details, scattered throughout the vast field of Vedic literature present ample evidence of incipient yet scientific ideas about the geological formation.
