What struck me at first glance was the simplicity of the text. Till then I had been exposed to texts that required prior exposure to many ideas and concepts in the area of spirituality. But this text was unlike anything I had gone through earlier.
Like any other work of Adi Shankaracharya, this work is profound, beautiful, and enlightening. It discusses principles of life, dharma, and spirituality. The author discusses all these in a presentation style that is very direct, and at the same time drives home the message with clarity. Perhaps the one thing that stands out as you go through this text is the simplicity with which the Acharya has dealt with the various ideas and principles essential for life.
While going through this text, Prashnottara-ratna-mālikā, I made some observations and notes. With the hope that the word-to-word translation of the text and the notes would benefit other seekers, I decided to compile them in the form of this book. I do hope I have been able to do justice to this beautiful composition of Adi Shankaracharya.
My deepest gratitude to my guru, Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha, who initiated me into the spiritual path, and thus inducted me into the Advaita Vedanta tradition established by Adi Shankaracharya himself.
My deepest gratitude to my mother Smt. Savitri Neelakantan and father Late. Sri. N. R. Neelakantan, for having ensured that I received sufficient exposure during my childhood to the culture and tradition of this land.
