Book Description
Preface

The author of Garland of Advaitic Wisdom – Ajati – is a fervent devotee of Sri Ramana Maharshi and an ardent advocate of Advaita Vedanta. In this book he places before the elite reader pearls of wisdom culled from various Upanishads and many other standard texts of Advaitic (non-dualistic) philosophy such as the Ashtavakra Gita, the Yoga Vasishtha, the Ribhu Gita, works of Sri Shankara, and the recorded teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi. The inclusion of some sayings and stories from Zen Buddhism and Taoism, in keeping with the modern trend, lends additional color to this venture.

The underlying motif in this book is Ajata vada – the doctrine of no-creation propounded in texts like Mandukya Karika of Sri Gaudapada and Ashtavakra Gita. Ajata-vada holds that there has been neither creation nor dissolution, neither From the Jacket:

"Garland of Advaitic Wisdom" consists of an introduction to Advaita Vedanta, followed by a large collection of crest quotes of nondual teaching extracted from ancient scriptures of Advaita Vedanta, Zen, Taoism, as well as from the recorded teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi.

The introductory part of the book accounts for the origin of Advaita, followed by a brief description of the Vedanta philosophical system, and a detailed accounting of the principal doctrines of Advaita School and its sub-schools. The first part of the book provides the reader with the minimum theoretical knowledge needed for a correct understanding of the wisdom contained in the four parts of quotes.

The 1020 magnificent quotes presented in four distinct parts are in the form of verses, sayings, and very short stories and were chosen as best exemplifying the essential themes of the non-dualistic Eastern teachings.
