Folklore Studies in the Current Globalization is a Festschrift presented to Prof. N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy, a renowned Folklorist and good administrator on his birthday falling on 69 Years (01:07.1948). This prestigious volume contains a wide spectrum of elite research papers covering Folklore, literature and culture by renowned authors. It undoubtedly becomes an important source of information and reference book for History, Culture, Folklore and Tribal lore for research scholars and teachers as well.

People are aware of two kinds of literature: Classical and Folklore. They respond to literature differently. Folk literature has been neglected by traditional scholars while classical one becomes famous! Modern thinking has made them understand the importance of folklore which is created by common people while classical one is produced by enlightened people. Folklore makes younger better than older children when classical literature highlights older better than younger ones which produces little confidence in the young. So Folklore needs a great book to L--€4ten all the people. Prof. N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy deserves this book devoted to him.

Professor Nagapatla Bhakthavathsala Reddy is a versatile genius, who has always tried hard to serve the poor and tribal people while he has continued to increase not only his knowledge but also his wisdom. He developed greatly from a lower level to a higher grade! Many people guided and assisted him a lot! His proficiency in Tamil and Malayalam besides his mother tongue Telugu and English are laudable. He is also having working knowledge in Kannada and Hindi. He worked in University of Kerala for 16 years prior to his appointment at Telugu University where he served for 14 years. He is-one of the founders of the Folklore Society of South Indian Languages (FOSSILS) which was established in the campus of University of Kerala when he was working there during 1988 and continued as General Secretary nearly for twenty five years which shows his commitment to the cause of folklore studies. He is still remembered and appreciated on various issues by many people who received various kinds of service from him. Prof. H M Maheshwaraiah, the Vice Chancellor ofthe Central University ofKarnataka, appreciates him as a devoted folklorist. Prof. N. B. Reddy not only educates his disciples but also adds wisdom to them in addition to his benevolent service to them. He was awarded the Career Award and the Best Teacher award by the UGC, the Government of India and Government ofAndhra Pradesh respectively.

Prof. N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy was born on 1St July, 1948 at Mahankalidevi Puttur Village, Yerpedu Mandal, Chittoor, District as a son to Smt. Navanethamma and Sri N. Venkatrami Reddy who had three sons and two daughters. He was first taught Telugu by his mother and then his father. He was motivated and inspired by his father. He was brought up at various places till he settled down. He started his education and completed ESLC (Eight Standard Leaving Certificate) in 1962 at Kattakinda Venkatapuram, then Puttur Taluq, Chittoor District; SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) in 1965 at P M High School, K L Hospital, Renigunta, Chittoor district; PUC (Pre University Course) in 1967 at NBKR Science and Arts College, Vidyanagar, Kota, Nellore District; BA (History, Philosophy, Telugu) in 1970 at S.V. University College ofArts, Tirupati and MA (Telugu) in 1972 at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He was encouraged by his father throughout his education and to develop his knowledge. He achieved a Certificate in Linguistics, in 1975 and a Certificate in Malayalam, in 1976 at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. He enjoyed his education through his modesty, enlightenment and efficiency in many languages as he was stimulated and emboldened by his parents so much.

Prof. N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy married Smt. Sarada, alias Arnmanni a daughter of his paternal uncle and aunt in 1977. He had three daughters who died at a tender age unfortunately. During his education he was always stood first to raise his hand to get his doubts cleared. After obtaining M.A. in Telugu from S.V. University, Tirupati he proceeded to Madurai University to continue his research and completed his Ph. D. in 1980 on svaatantryoottara kaalaana telugu kavita (Post- Independence Poetry in Telugu) under the guidance of Prof. Timmavajjhala Kodandaramaiah, a well known traditional scholar and critic who was a disciple ofVeturi Prabhakara Sastry, a famous critic on classical literature and folklore. Prof. Reddy was one of the brilliant students of Sanskrit during his B.A. and M.A. courses. But his learning Hindi was stopped at High School stage itself even though he was able to read and write legibly. He got his thesis published in 1986 and its second edition got republished in 2008.

Prof N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy stayed in Kerala andbecame a good friend ofProf Viswambharan, Professor of Hindi. Mrs N. B. Reddy did not know Malayalam yet conveyed her ideas through signals to Mrs. Viswambharan. Later she learnt it and used it effectively. Prof. Reddy was able to achieve various things with the assistance of his wife. Their life became ideal to many people. The organisation of `ii sataabdhi Telugu vaitaaaLikulu (Luminaries ofthe Century) continuously on second Saturday on the eve ofNew millennium was remembered by the Central SahityaAkedami awardee Amapasayya Naveen in his article. Naveen appreciates his organisational skill and applauded him by remembering meetings on familiar poets such as Kandukuri Veereshalingam Panthulu, GurajadaAppa Rao, Gidugu Rama Murthy, Madapati Hanumantha Rao, Suravaram Prathap Reddy, Vishwanatha Satyanarayana, Chalam, Sri Sri, Kaloji, Dasharathi and many others. Mr. Naveen also records Dr. Reddy's tireless efforts in establishing the `Janapada Girijana Vignanapetham' (School of Folk and Tribal lore, P S Telugu University) for nearly fourteen years in Warangal.

Prof. N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy pursued various projects as part of his research: six national and four international workshops. He guided various disciples in research: eight scholars completed their Ph. D's. and six scholars are working to pursue their Ph. D's. He got four books and six documents published and served as the editor of three Newsletters onfolklore and linguistics. With his back ground on dravidian languges and literatures he started his post doctoral research on comparative literature. Later on on the advice of Prof V I Subramoniam, the veteran linguist and his mentor he moved to folklore. As Dean, School of Folk and Tribal lore he organised six state level and district level Folklore festivals and is instrumental to organise three Telugu Association ofNorthAmerica (TANA) and five America Telugu Association (ATA) and North America Telugu Association (NATA) in addition to 26 seminars, 09 workshops and 11 folklore festivals. Previously, he participated to learn new things in more than 60 seminars, workshops and symposia in addition to teaching his fellow Project staff He served various associations as a member, a treasurer and a general secretary and a director for some time through his enlightenment ofmany people. Prof N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy achieved various great things. Let our readers see how he improved a noble efforts and achievements. "Inspired by Prof. V.I. Subramonium, Dr. Bhakthavathsala Reddy and other like-minded scholars started Folklore Society of South Indian Languages (FOSSILS) on an informal basis and they were conducting seminars and other programs." according to Shankaranarayan, a folklorist. He got a UGC CareerAward for working on "A Comparative Study of Folk Performing Arts of Kerala, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh" during 1988 - 91. He won a Best Teacher Award in 2001 from the Gov. ofAndhra Pradesh. He was presented Ugadi Puraskaram in 2015 by Government ofAndhra Pradesh. Dr. Venkatesha appreciates Prof. N.B. Reddy's commitment to all kinds of activities and success in them. Prof. Ramachandre Goude applauses Prof N. B. Reddy more than his real name Bhaktha (devotion) and Vathsala (love).

On the advice of Prof P. Chenna Reddy, Prof M. Sarat Babu also attended the workshop series on folklore studies organised by FOSSILS in two phases one each in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. He got acquainted with Prof N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy and other scholars. They were taught folklore methodology by Prof. N.B. Reddy, Prof. Raghavan Payyanad, Prof. T.N. Shankaranarayana, Prof Doctor Nazeemdeen and Prof Sudhakar Reddy and others so they came to know more about folklore. Both of them compiled a book on Folklore in the New Millennium to honour Prof B. Rama Raju who developed folklore as one of the subjects in the Universities ofAndhra Pradesh so much and it got published in 2004. Prof N. B. Reddy wrote an excellent paper on Prof Rama Raju. We owe our growth to him and decided to honour him with this book.
