I was 17-years old at that time. During those days I had read a book on palmistry that forecasted the future. I too, by studying the palms of my friends and relatives, began to predict their future, when asked.
It was mentioned in the book that one who has a long Line of Saturn is rich. A person with a short Line of Life has a short life. A long Line of Life bisected by the Line of Mercury proves dangerous for his life. If the lines of marriage are more than one, then the person has more than one marriage or many love affairs. The vertical lines present on the lines of marriage indicate the number of children born to the person.
On the basis of knowledge acquired from that book, when I studied the hands of my acquaintances, I began to doubt the validity of this knowledge. This was because many of my close friends had no Line of Saturn but were rich, while I saw a long Line of Saturn on the hands of many of my acquaintances living in poverty. I came across the hands of a number of persons according to whose Line of Life, they should have died at the age of 50, but who were hail and hearty, right in front of me, even at the age of 65.
To remove my doubts, I read many other books related to palmistry but they only helped to add to my state of confusion. In some books the start of the Line of Heart was mentioned as the base of the index finger; while in others, the emergence of the Line of Heart was given at the base of the little or the fourth finger.
I found different views regarding the Line of Mercury. In some books, it was described as the Line of Health while in others, it had been named as 'hepatica'.
