G. K. GHOSH, a graduate in Chemical Engineering is a prolific writer who wrote over 15 books on environment, anthropology. women development, literature, beekeeping and so on. He had presented over 20 papers in the section of anthropology and archeology in Indian Science Congress. He had also written articles, poems etc., in Oriya, Bengali and English published in various periodicals. He was posted for over four years in North Eastern India therefor he could collect a number of folk tales of the region.

SHUKLA GHOSH, a graduate from University of Calcutta and a graduate in Music from Prayag Sangit Samaj, is a prolific writer who presented four papers in the section of anthropology and archeology in Indian Science Congress. A book on Indian textile jointly written by her published recently. She was in North Eastern India for over four years and collected a number of folk tales which she proposes to publish in series.

Tripura, the land of music and songs that echoes natural environment. The sound of music rebounds it river, its hills and its greanary and goes beyond to influence the culture of Bengal, Assam, and Mynamar, even to Bombay and entire India through its Cultural Ambassadors late Sachin Dev Burman and Late Rahul Dev Burman.

The land basically belong to various tribes like Tripuri (or Tiperrah), Reang, Jamatiyas, Noatias etc., who belong to Bodo-Rabha group, Lushai, Halam, Rankhal etc., who belong to Mizor-Kuki group, gro Mogh, Jhumiah etc. of Mogh group, besides Chakmas, Garos, Santhals etc., who are the migrants. But demography has totally changed due to influx of Bengalis and the tribals became minorities in their own land.

Though as on today Tripura's demography is dominated by Bengalis the folktales recorded here are not those of Bengali people but of tribals, the original sons of the soil. Since most of the Bengalis came from neighbouring Bangladesh or Assam their folk tales naturally do not have any relationship with the region.

What has been recorded here are a fraction of total folk tales in circulation. As far as possible the name of the tribe has been noted inside the bracket.
