This monograph, originally entitled 'Prabhand, Dhrupad and Khyal, was written in Marathi and read on 23 November 1974 before a select audience of musicians. Musicologists and litterateurs of Maharashtra, invited by the Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh, Bombay. The monograph in Marathi and its translation into Hindi were published in Sangita Kala Vihar (Vol : 28, Nos. 4 & 5). Some modifications have been made in the present translation into English to make it presentable to non-Marathi audience.
