19 January, 1990: Osho leaves his body. Written on his Epitaph over his samadhi in Kathmandu, Nepal and Pune, India are his own words: .
1. Regular meditation is the first requirement of Osho Neo-Sannyas. Meditation is a knack so it can be learnt easily with a group of meditators. It is recommended that the participants should learn the techniques in dedicated Osho centers. If that is not available, they can create a group and meditate with the group. It is also recommended that for the first few years after initiation you should visit Osho communes and participate in Osho Meditation Camps frequently.
2. Mala is an essential aspect of sannyas. Of late, there is a widespread misconception that the mala given to a sannyasin during his or her sannyas initiation in nonessential. This is not true. Osho was always in favour of the mala. He has spoken extensively on the importance of the mala repeatedly till the last days of his life.
"Without this mala you will feel totally unprotected, totally in the reins of a force which can be harmful. With this mala on you will feel protected, you will be more confident, settled. Nothing can disturb from the outside. It happens so; you will do the experiment and know."
3. Dress is another important element. For meditation a loose and comfortable robe of maroon or any shade of red is ideal. Black color hinders progress in meditation; it is the color that attracts dark forces. It is not a coincidence that after Osho left his body, many group-leaders associated with Osho International, Pune have been brainwashed into wearing black, this was systematically planned. Black color creates a gloomy and pessimistic mood creating a milieu where it is easy for negative forces to work. Black-magicians, Kapaliks and other sects that work with dark forces have been using this color as an esoteric tool. Red is the color of sunrise and flowers. It represents the life force. After thousands of years of experiments by many different meditators it was found that shades of red is helpful in meditation. Modern scientific researches have studied the effects of colors on the psyche and they also agree with this fact. This is why all over the world most of the meditators have been wearing a shade of red or white. Satsang means to be in the communion with the master. Osho is not in his body anymore. But when you read or listen to him meditatively you are in a subtle communion. Therefore, whenever you have an opportunity, sit down and spend time either reading, listening to him or watching his video which in itself is a powerful meditation. It is also helpful to be in the company of people who will enhance and inspire you towards meditation. In the early years of your sannyas, spending ten percent of your time (five weeks a year) in a charged Buddhafield such as an Osho commune is very useful to support and inspire you. Once you become mature in meditation, which may take at least a few years, you can inspire others as well.
5. Food: We are what we eat. Osho has spoken extensively on food discipline for seekers. Vegetarian food is particularly helpful. Generally, alcohol, tobacco or any other form of intoxicating substance induces a dreamlike and unconscious state, which is harmful for meditators. If you are sincere and regular in meditation these habits will drop on their own. Avoid packed food and bottled drink. Try to eat homemade fresh food as much as possible. Food should be consumed within 90 minutes of cooking.
