Introduction
Environment is verily the main subject of talk today in every society having some concern with humanity, it is only after the five grass elements - the earth, water, fire, air and ether are polluted by us to such an extent that all living beings are threatened with the fear of extinction from this planet. Scores of scholars and diplomats from all the countries deeply concerned with the problem periodically meet in some place or the other to suggest the remedies to ward off the terrifying impact of global pollution. These remedies are, however, never or half-heartedly executed by the countries concerned. Moreover no body is willing to look at the past when there was no such issue of pollution whether physical, moral, social or religious, that we are facing today.

Preface
This gives me immense pleasure to write foreword for this book Delibrations of Environment in Sanskrit Literature (संस्कृत शास्त्राकाराणां पर्यावरणविमर्शः) not just because author of this book is personally known to me since last forty years as a renowned scholar of Sanskrit literature. But, because Prof. Deo Narayan Jha has chosen a contemporary topic of environmental pollution, which is of utmost importance in present time for interpretive discussion amongst academicians and students.

This book presents a nice blend of author's deep Sanskrit musings, vision on modern scientific development and sensitiveness towards societal problems. I believe this book will create awareness for deteriorating environmental problems for our surroundings.
