However, with passage of time and in the wave of modernization, the traditional role of 'family' which was so significant in the past, in infusing values of harmony and righteousness, has become weaker and less effective. Our modern education system, sadly, is lacking the visionary and holistic approach that characterised our ancient system. As against ancient system of education which was a great source earning imparting moral and ethical values to the people, the present system, basically, does not place faith in such values and their crucial role in the all-round growth of a human being. Rather, it adopts a hostile approach towards these considerations. Consequently, it has, ominously, demolished one's faith in ethical values and natal code of conduct. That is why, in the present milieu, one finds a large number of educated people, who, despite being well aware of dharma and its essence, like Duryodhana of Mahabharata, are not inclined to follow it. Similarly, they also know what is adharma or unethical and unfair, but cannot abstain from it. It only shows their lack of moral strength and conviction as depicted in the following shloka :-
As a result, such perceptions have led to sharp increase in frustration and suicidal tendencies among people particularly youth.
