(May the Lord, with His palm showing Chinmudraa, endowed with a body that surpasses in lustre the jasmine flower, staying under the banyan tree, gracing the sages with looks that exude nectarine compassion, break asunder the darkness of delusion and instruct me in that Supreme Truth embedded in the scriptural text That-thou-art'.)
Fulfilling t the promise made in the Bhagavad Gita to send forth a soul to protect and revitalize Dharma whenever it becomes weak, with infinite mercy, the Good Lord decided to appear in the form of Shankara Bhagavatpada to resuscitate the values of Sanatana Dharma amongst human beings. Towards this noble objective, Bhagavatpada travelled the length and breadth of the country, spreading Astikya, rejuvenating Dharma, Shraddha and Bakti among people by exhorting them to follow the Shastra teachings of Sadvidya and Sadaachara. He integrated the worship of different gods by enunciating that devotion to any god culminates in devotion to the same entity.
In the words of the present Shankaracharya of Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamigal was an embodiment of great qualities and was one of the greatest saints of the twentieth century. He was born on the sacred Deepavali day in the year 1917 at Bengaluru. He took Sannyasa at a very young age of 13 in the year 1931 and became the Pontiff of the sacred Sringeri Sharada Peetham in the year 1954. He brought great glory to this institution as its 35 Shankaracharya for 35 glorious years.
His Centenary Jayanthi was celebrated by His devotees all over the country in the year 2017. With the guidance and the blessings of the Jagadgurus of Sringeri, Sri Vidyatheertha Foundation organised a photo exhibition series in seven places across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. A Smarana Sapthaaham (A seven-day series in which many distinguished devotees reminisced on their very personal and rare experiences with Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamigal) at Sringeri and various programs for students were also organized by Sri Vidyatheertha Foundation.
It is nothing but the grace of their Holinesses, Sri Mahasannidhanam Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamigal and Sri Sannidhanam Sri Vidhushekhara Bharathi Swamigal, that this Foundation was blessed with a great opportunity to celebrate the Centenary Jayanthi year of Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamigal.
