As we all know teacher plays a pivotal role in the teaching learning process, Enlightened, empowered and emancipated teachers lead communities and nations in their march towards better and higher qualities of life. They reveal and elaborate the secrets of attaining higher values in life and nurture empathy for the fellow beings. As empowered teachers are the assets for the society attempts have been made to empower them from time to time by means of reforming the teacher education programmes. It is being felt that existing teacher education curriculum needs to be changed as teachers being trained through the present programme are unable to prove their competence and worth. Although efforts are being made. by NCTE in this direction but due to some or the other reasons it is not being formulized. An earnest need of overhauling the whole system is being felt by the people directly or indirectly concerned with the same. In order to empower the teachers, their training should be planned in a manner that can enable them to perform their role properly. They have to be trained in the art as well as science of value inculcation among their students. They must know to manage stress in an efficient manner by understanding the situation realistically. As these qualities are essential for creating a peaceful and congenial climate in the work place as well at home. As teachers have to also deal with the unpredictable behavior of students which in itself is very challenging, they should have sound knowledge of emotional intelligence and various strategies used to foster the same among the students. This book addresses the issues of values and its inculcation, stress management, emotional intelligence, education for peace, environmental awareness and women empowerment their concepts, researchers' viewpoints and the role of teachers in helping the students to face challenging situations with confidence. Strategies to cope with the situations are presented in detail in order to aid the teachers in becoming empowered.
Kalplata Pandey : Born on August 21, 1955. She received her school education in Varanasi. Sher obtained her M.A. degree in History of Arts and Distance Education from Banaras Hindu University and Banaras Hinat Indira Gandhi National Openi University respectively and M.Ed and D.Phil degree from Allahabad University. She started her teaching career at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidhyapith, Varanasi in 1985. Currently she is working as Professor in Faculty of Education and Director Institute of Tourism Studies, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith. She has also had the privilege of serving the University at various administrative posts such as the Head and Dean, Faculty of Education, Dean Students' welfare, Chief Proctor and In-charge Head of Physical Education and Library and Information Science Department. She has had the ng six books (2 honour of authoring six books (2 edited) in education and completed two research projects financed by the UGC and NCERT. She has the credit of construction more than ten credit of constructing more than ten tools for measuring achievement, values, academic anxiety, deprivation, emotional intelligence, sense of responsibility etc. She has been editing the Journal of Emerging Trends in Education for the past six years. She has contributed to the field of education by publishing more than 70 research papers in various academic journals of repute in the field of Education. She has visited USSR (1991) and France (2005) under the cultural exchange scheme of UGC. She has also been the Coordinator of the Centre for Excellence; State sponsored Program for the Department of Education, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith for two consecutive years.
