Foreword

The first and foremost aim of Ayurveda is the promotion of health of an healthy individual and the prevention of diseases. Ayurveda stated that, the healthy body is the mean to achieve Dharma, Artha, Kama & Moksha. All the preventive principles are described in Ayurveda under the subject ", Swasthevritta ", which is known as preventive and social medicine in modern medical science. Swasthavritta has been included in 'IInd Professional B.A.M.S syllabus by C.C.I.M, New Delhi. There are some text books available in this subject as per the syllabus in Hindi and the regional languages. Most of the colleges do have the English as the medium of instructions and most of the students are also coming from English medium back ground. So there is a need of the hour to bring out the text books in English. With this intention the author has done a commendable job to come out with such a motto.

Even though the book is concised, the author has covered all the topics as per the syllabus. Under the paribhasa topic, he has given meaning and definitions of all syllabus points both Ayurveda & Modern.' He' prepared short notes for Dinacharya, Rutucharya, Ahara, Jala Suddhikarana, vayusuddhikarana and parivara Kalyana Karya Krama etc., international classification of communicable diseases, health institutions, causative organisms, Incubation periods, health agencies, WHO & its themes, and Improtant calender events are the lime lights to this book.

The Model Questions & Answers consisting of long Essays, Short Essays & Short Notes are very much useful for the students appearing university theory examinations, the practical writings, Spotting and multiple choice questions material will help the students for appearing practical examination & Viva - Voce. In total, the material available in this book will serve as a comprehensive guide for both UG& PG students of swasthavritta.

Under one roof, the demands of students irrespective of UG/ PG is being met in this text concerned with the subject. It is not an exaggeration, if I request the students to look into this book before appearing for an Entrance test, but also for the teachers of swasthavritta.

At this juncture, lam really very proud of Dr. P. Sudhakar Reddy, Assistant Professor of our college for having done a wonderful job on to bring out a "Comprehensive Guide to Swasthavritta" in English & I wish him all success in his endeavour.
