However, popular consensus, on any topic not necessarily on Rahu and spirituality, is often opinions that are not substantiated by facts and analyses. In addition, intuitions can go wrong, especially when it comes to a complex subject such as jyotish (Vedic astrology). It is quite possible that this consensus on Rahu holds true; but there is no methodical astrological analysis ever done to establish it. Given that Rahu represents one of the nine avatars of Lord Vishnu, in jyotish, it is also possible that this consensus is false. However, there has been no Vedic astrological analysis to confirm this either.
This book, in the form of an argumentative essay, wants to statistically answer the all-important question: what is the truth behind the spiritual ethos of Rahu? Alternatively, does Rahu seed and/or give spirituality or not? The essay conducts an argumentative analysis in jyotish with rigor to statistically establish using numerous horoscope case studies the fact that Rahu does not give spiritual ethos in a native. However, it plays a significant role in seeding, sustaining/supporting, and externally manifesting already inherent spirituality (that is seeded by other planets other than Rahu) in a native.
In the puranas, Rahu is represented by the Varaha (boar) avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu, with each of the nine planets associated with one of the nine avatars of Lord Vishnu. Rahu, when operating on its higher principle, can protect and save the universe (as was the main purpose of all the avatars of Lord Vishnu). Rahu is also related to the energy of Goddess Durga and likewise worshiping the Goddess helps us elevate our Rahu energy to please the Goddess by putting these energies to the right use. It is hard to believe that Rahu energies will not enable spiritual development for a native when Lord Vishnu and Goddess Durga represent this planet.
Ranjan Pal acknowledges his late father Dr. Manabendra Nath Pal (ex-Professor and Acting Director at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta) for sowing the seeds of jyotish in his son from early childhood (beginning in the mahadasha of the 8th lord). He taught basic astrology and its logic and mathematics to Ranjan Pal and always showed him his intellectual and moral limits, on how far to go in Vedic astrology (i.e., striving for excellence, but not taking it up as a profession), given his son's primary career aspirations and his way of life.
