Book Description
About The Book

Dina Nath Kaul Nadim (1916-88), the foremost Kashmiri poet of the second half of this century who succeeded the great poet Mahjoor, inaugurated a new era in Kashmiri literature with his unprecedented experiments in form and diction. With him many firsts are associated. He was the first to use free verse (Bu Gyavana Az, 1950), the first to use blank verse (Myon Afsaana, 1954), the first to write a musical play (Yi Zameen Tami Sunz Yemi Kamaav Kheti, 1949), the first to write an opera (Bombur ta Yambarzal, 1953), the first to write a sonnet (Tse Chhee Naa Lola Myanay Yaad Tim Doh, 1954) and the first to write a short story in Kashmiri (Jawaabee Kaard, 1949). As an eminent poet with his daring innovations he remained a source of inspiration to the progressive writers. He won the Sahitya Akademi award, the Soviet Land Nehru award, the Kalhana award and the Sharda Samman for his contribution to Indian literature.
