We have great pleasure in presenting to the spiritual seekers, a very valuable treasure in the form of this book entitled “A Dialogue between Yajnavalkya and Maitreyi in Brihadaranyak Upanishad” which was originally written in Marathi by Swami Shivatatvananda and published by Ramakrishna Math, Nagpur. It was originally serialized as editorials in the Marathi Journal “Jivan-Vikas' and later on published in book form.
Indian culture has survived due to the eternal knowledge of the Brahmavidya which continues uninterruptedly through the Guru-shishya tradition. But the special feature of this book is that this zestful and fundamental dialogue took place between a very common association that of husband and wife – sage Yajnavalkya, the knower of Brahman and his consort Maitreyi, the Brahmavadini and so it stands as exclusively unique in the ancient spiritual history of the world. In the present book this facet of spiritual knowledge is rendered more charming and brilliant by the interspersing precepts of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, full of discrimination and dispassion.
It is our sincere hope that this most sacred and didactic dialogue between equally illustrious and unique husband and wife will definitely kindle the thirst for knowledge of the Atman in the minds of thoughtful readers.
Grateful acknowledgement and thanks are extended to Mr. Bhagbat Chakraborty of Meteor Books, Kolkata for publishing and to Malti Prints of Aurangabad for their efficient work of printing
