I am extremely happy to place before the scholars this very important publications of the Centre on a theme of modern relevance. The volume deliberates on the concept of Dharma and its various shades of meanings in the light of different texts and traditions of India. There are some 28 articles included in this volume along with one article by the Late R. N. Dandekar, published before by the Centre which was out of print, which serves as an introduction to the entire volume.

Now, it is my pleasant duty to record my gratitude to all who have helped me in bringing out this volume. I express my gratefulness to all my colleagues of the Centre and Department for their sincere help. I thank Professor Ravindra Muley, Dr. Divakar Mohanty, Fr.
