Preface

The Supreme Buddha, after discovering the truths, out of compassion propounded the precious Dhamma to the world 2600 years ago. Those teachings of timeless value continued to flow till our time as fresh and as healing as they were centuries ago. The chain of teacher disciple monks, nuns, lay upasakas and upasikas kept the doctrine alive both in practice and theory. India had been the birth place of Buddhism, but it was the Asian countries which have adopted and preserved it for centuries.
In our times Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, the founder of Mahabodhi organizations in Bengaluru, had been an outstanding Buddhist monk, who with great effort established Buddha viharas and propagated the Dhamma. From the very beginning of his coming to Bengaluru he started giving Dhamma discourses which became quite popular among people from all walks of life. Another program which gained much popularity was his hospital dana service and counselling the poor patients.
The specialty of his teachings was, presenting the profound Dhamma in simple words applicable to daily life. He used to base his discourses on the Suttas or gathas from the Tipitaka. The discourses which he presented came out of much contemplation which he used to do daily and practice and try to experience for himself before teaching to others. Sometimes he used to tell and discuss the same subject for weeks to the monks around him.
He has given thousands of discourses. In the last years they were recorded both in audio and video formats. We are lucky to have 90 dhamma talks available in audios. They cover many subjects of Buddhism focusing on implementing in daily life. Two of his popular series of discourses were Mangala Sutta - the Life's Great Blessings and on Kamma.
In this volume we are presenting 30 talks on Dhamma touching some very fundamentals of life, meaning of life, mind, faculties of mind, noble truths and quite some on kamma and its various facets. We are sure they will enrich the spiritual practice and knowledge of a reader.
