Book Description
About the Book
Every desire, whether fulfilled or not fulfilled, ends in tears.

And no desire simply ends; before it ends it gives birth to other desires. So it remains a continuum: one goes on from one desire to another desire, life after life. Either you will be consumed by your desires or you have to consume your desires. Watch. The whole affair is stupid.

The intelligent person lives joyfully, contentedly, whatsoever situation he is in, whatsoever he has got. He lives joyfully, thankfully, gratefully. You can take his possessions away from him but you cannot take his joy, because he knows how to live joyfully.

Preface
Osho often spoke of desire as a hindrance to spiritual awakening. He explained that desire, in its ordinary form, binds individuals to endless cycles of craving and dissatisfaction. When one desire is fulfilled, another arises, creating a perpetual chase that keeps the mind restless and disconnected from the present moment. Osho likened this to running on a treadmill - an illusion of progress while remaining stationary in a deeper sense.

However, he also emphasized that the energy behind desire is not inherently negative. Instead, it is a misdirected form of a profound longing for something eternal, infinite, and fulfilling. When desire is purified and freed from specific objects or attachments, it becomes a bridge to the divine. This transformed desire, or desirelessness, is not suppression but transcendence.
