Catalogue, being an organ, opens the treasure of knowledge and the cataloguing is a literary and time consuming work depending upon the ability and full talented efficiency individually and jointly as well. The importance of the cataloguing can be adjudged with the facts that can be a few personalities and institutions in India accepting its challenge.
I feel pleasure in presenting volume II of the Descriptive Catalogue of the Persian Manuscripts (History). The first volume was published in 1987 which consisted of the References to the Manuscripts available in the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Arabic and Persian Research Institute, Tonk on the subject of History including Biography, Geography, Topography, Cosmography and Travel.
Cataloguing or the preparation of a Catalogue is a continuous process. It fluctuates with the input and addition of the Collections arriving at the resource centre. From the time, the first volume was compiled, till it came out of the press, the Institute could collect some more manuscripts on the subject which are of great significance. It was, therefore, deemed very relevant to compile these new arrivals as a Supplement to Volume I. This supplement is presented as chapter I of the present Volume. Some of the important manuscripts of this compilation form part of the Shaghil Collection as donated by Dr. A. F. Usmani. The subject-wise list of the manuscripts described in the Supplement is given in the beginning for the convenience of the illustrated and the ornate manuscripts included therein. The manuscripts are further described in the chronological order which is of great relevance to the Research Scholars.
