About the Author
Rina Mehta, who considers being a Mum, her biggest qualification and occupation, began working as a copywriter with H.T.A., Delhi. She subsequently moved to O & M, Mumbai. With the arrival of her daughter, Tanvi and Kimaya, she realized that it was possible to write and enjoy Mum hood at the same time. That was how the first edition of the immensely popular ‘Mums’ Guide’ series, the Mumbai Mums’ Guide, came to be. The ‘Bangalore Mums’ Guide’ followed soon. And now she wants to reach out to the Delhi Mums with this guide. Having grown up in the city, this book is especially close to her heart.
Delhi Mums’ Buzz…
Dear Delhi Mums,
‘Have decided upon the school for your precious one?', ’Found classes For him?’ ‘What theme will you have for her birthday party?' U these queries signal the beginning of the end of the joys of mumhood, don't despair. Remember, this is also the most beautiful time when our little ones are growing and learning new things every day.
Sound idyllic? I know there’s a lot of groundwork involved. And research. And stress. About nurseries, admissions, schools, classes and activities, among others. But really, it is entirely possible to enjoy this time. One just needs to get a little organised. And get some assistance. That's why I decided to compile the 'Delhi Mums’ Guide'. After the success of the ’Mumbai Mums’ Guide’ and the ’Bangalore Mums’ Guide', Delhi, my own dear home town, Had to be next. I do hope it will be a helping hand to you.
The first thing to tackle are the admissions into nursery schools. Your little one is going to be spending time away from home for the first time. Do your research, figure out what you want for your child and go for it. Some schools are more academically inclined whilst others let the children play more. Take your time to find out what matches your priorities. Do not panic, everybody manages and so will you!
It was so exciting to find that Delhi has so much to offer for kids. I came across all kinds of classes and activities and a whole lot of fun things to do with the children. The long summer months are easily filled with swimming and indoor hobby classes. Since the days are long, the kids can pack in a lot during the day. Delhi has many parks and gardens, if all one needs is some winter sunshine and a stroll. A word of caution though…the parks may be beautiful but it’s safer to leave before it begins to get dark.
Birthday parties, a must in every child’s life! Fortunately here too it is all a matter of deciding how much you want to do, planning your budget and taking it from there. There are plenty of people in the city ready to help you with your party.
Please keep in mind that though I have verified all the information, phone numbers do change. The listing cannot hope to cover all of Delhi but I do hope there is ample in formation to help enjoy mumhood to the fullest. All the best! Have fun!
HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
1. For easier browsing, the city has been divided into 8 different ’Areas’. To find out the specific area number that a particular locality falls under, please check the’ Key to the Areas' on page no. xv, xvi. 2. All entries have been listed, in ascending order of their ’Area’ number. For instance, those that appear in ’Area l', will be followed by those in ’Area 2’ and subsequently, those in ’Area 3’ and so on. 3. Within each ’Area', the entries are listed in alphabetical order, i.e. those that begin with the letter ’A' appear first, followed by those with ’B’, and so on. Hence, within the same area, ’Apeejay School' would appear before ’D.A.V. Model School'. 4. In the ’Around Town', ’Classes' and Shopping for I 5. At the end of the book, you will find an ’Alphabetical Index', in case you need to find a particular institution but are unsure of the area. 6. At the top of each page, the ’Area' or ’Areas' of the entries that appear there in, are denoted. 7. The age of the child has been denoted in terms of years and months, i.e. two’ and a half years, appears as 2.6 years and not as 2.5 years. 10. Where it is mentioned ‘Other branches in this Area’, it covers the branches with that specific area number only. For branches in other areas, you, you will need to look under those are as. For instance, ‘Shemrock Foundation School is in ‘Area 1’. Under it other branches located in ‘Area 1’ are also mentioned such as those in Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh and Civil Lines. Shemrock Green School is in ‘Area 2’ and hence appears separately under ‘Area 2’. This mentions other branches located in ‘Area 2’ and so on.
