This work is an attempt to write a general history of a city where I have lived for long and one that has groomed me in many ways. Many a time, my own experiences with the city, its monuments and its people have shaped the desire to understand, and hence write about the city. Many of the sections that discuss the behaviour of its inhabitants, as well as its monuments and markets, are my own experiences. I share these with complete consciousness and anyone who holds a contrary viewpoint has the right to discard it totally.
I trust that the material collected and presented here will be of interest to the reader, and will be of instructive value in the discipline of history. Archaeological and historical evidences and information are used to arrive at authenticity of events.
