Daya Narain Nigam holds a unique place among the galaxy of writers who enriched Urdu literary journalism in the first half of the twentieth century. From 1903 to 1942, he not only established new trends in Urdu literary journalism through the monthly Zamana and the weekly Azad, but left an indelible mark on a whole new generation through his enlightened and intellectual views. He was a very close friend of Prem Chand and played an important role in shaping Prem Chand's creative literary genius.
