Dandin is one of those immortal poets of Sanskrit Literature, whose works have withstood the test of time for thousands of years and still delight our hearts with the nectar of their creations. Dandin is mentioned along with Kalidasa for his padalalitya. His Kavyadarsa has acquired the beauty of a poetic composition because of the two hundred lucid aphorisms compiled in it as examples. The immense popularity of this laksanagrantha [a work of poetics] can be gauged by the fact that it had already been translated into Kannada, Sinhalese and the Bhota language of Tibet between the ninth and the thirteenth century. The Kavyadarsa of Dandin is in fact an epitaph of the learned assemblies of that era.
Similarly, the Dasakumaracarita is an immortal composition of the katha-literature as it is replete with the episodes and experiences of life and the society. The text presents a true picture of the contemporary society and history; especially the eternal and the variegated mind of the people, for which the Dasakumaracarita has remained popular for the past fifteen hundred years.

In this monograph the author Dr. Jayashankar Tripathi, an eminent scholar of Sanskrit Literature has introduced to the readers the extraordinary and interesting story of the Dasakumaracarita along with the life history of its author, Dandin.
The translator Dr. Deepali Bhanot, a widely traveled Sanskrit scholar has participated in a number of Interfaith Conferences and presented papers in it. She has also participated and presented papers in seminars organized by the University of Delhi. Presently she is working as Reader in Sanskrit in Janaki Devi Mahavidyalaya, University of Delhi, Delhi.
