Published under the 'Woolner Indological Series' of the famous V.V. Research Institute, Hoshiarpur, Pb., with a foreword by then Minister of Education, Govt. of India, Prof. Humayun Kabir - and edited by Mahendra Kulasrestha, English Editor of the Institute at the time- it had contributions on most aspects of Indian culture by well known authorities in their respective areas. It formed a balanced and readable compendium on the hoary subject for the general reader, and was much commended for the reason. Several universities in America accepted it as suggested reading.
It is being revived for the modern reader whose need of knowing about various aspects of Indian culture is increasing every passing day.
