Cultural Tourism includes visits to historic buildings, sights, museums, art galleries and also to view contemporary painting or sculptures or to attend the performing arts. Cultural Tourism comprises of visits by persons from outside the host community motivated wholly or in part by their interest in the historical, artistic, scientific, or life styles or heritage offering of a community, region, group or institution. This book is prepared on the basis of a detailed scientific enquiry conducted to elicit the problems of cultural tourism activities in India taking Kerala as a representative state. There are various apprehensions, misbeliefs, over expectations and under estimation of the different aspects of cultural tourism as conceived by the tourists and the local Host Community. The book also covers the prospects of cultural tourism which indicates vast scope in a state like Kerala where rich culture and heritage are predominant in every district of the state. An extensive review of earlier studies is done to bring out the various aspects of the problems and prospects of Cultural Tourism, Both primary and secondary data were used for the study.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar P.S. is presently the Head of the Department of Commerce at Sahodaran Ayyappan Smaraka SNDP Yogam College, Konny under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala. With 23 years of Teaching experience and 2 years of Post Doctoral experience he is now one of the subject experts in Commerce in Mahatma Gandhi University.
Dr. Anil Kumar K. is currently the Principal of Pazhassiraja College, Pulpally. Wayanad, Kerala. He received his M.Com., M.Phil. and Ph.D. from the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram in 1988, 1992 and 2006 respectively. In 2008, he received M.B.A. from Pondichery Central University. With a teaching experience of 26 years and 15 years of Post-doctoral research, he has published 7 books and a number of research papers in academic journals of repute. As Approved Research Guide in Commerce, produced 4 Ph.Ds and presently guiding research scholars. Specialisation include Finance, Marketing, Tourism and E-Governance. Served as member Board of Studies; Member Faculty; and Chairman BoS in University of Calicut. Acting as one of the Subject Experts of Calicut University, Kerala.

Primary data were collected from the samples of tourists and local Host Community using structured questionnaire. Fourteen tourist places were selected covering all the 7 categories of cultural tourists according to a prescribed typology. Both the tourists and Host Community were selected by applying non-probability sampling technique. A total of 700 tourists and 900 local Host Community constitute the sample size of the study. A number of valid hypotheses were formulated and tested at appropriate places. Statistical tools such as ANOVA, Z test, mean, Standard deviation, Regression Coefficient, Multiple Comparison, Structural Equation Modelling etc. were used for the analysis of data. Both general and special problems of Cultural Tourism were analysed in detail.
