Srila Prabhupada explains that the soul is even envious of itself. Although, it knows what is good for itself, still it will not pursue it. If it has a human form but becomes a dog next life by misusing its human form, then that is being envious of oneself.

Similarly, we know the path still we do not surrender fully. We are so engrossed in our material life, so much in ignorance that we cannot even stand up and go away when the fire of material existence is burning us, we won't get up just roll around to feel less heat: Such Laziness.

When Srila Prabhupada came to the West, he charmed the hippies. They just wanted to surrender to him; they wanted to see his smile, get his attention, and a chance to please him. A look from him was the world to them. They were ready to do anything for him. Just to please him, they were ready to give up Maya and stopped listening to the mind. Out of love for him, they did the impossible, just like the gopis who had no interest to know Krsna, but just wanted to love Him. The gopis were ready to go to hell by giving the dust of their feet to take away Krsna's headache. Similarly, these devotees just loved Srila Prabhupada and were ready to give up their lives for him.

Similarly, if we also develop some love for our Guru, we will become determined to give up Maya. We will think Guru Maharaja is so kind to me, he has sacrificed so much for me, he is such an example for me. How can I cheat him at any time? How can I be such a bad disciple? Let me do this for him. Every time we meet Guru Maharaja, we experience such care, such sweetness, such example, such greatness and that increases our determination to follow the process. So, when Maya attacks us we think, "Oh, I promised to my Guru, my Guru may suffer if I do something wrong, he is sacrificing so much for me, let me do this little thing for him and not listen to my mind.
