THIS GURU YOGA OF THE SIXTEENTH GYALWANG KARMAPA, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, is special and of particular significance because it was composed by the Sixteenth Gyalwang Karmapa himself, and to this day it remains as the daily guru yoga practice for many of his students.
His Eminence Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche, the composer of this commentary, is the tenth incarnation in a lineage, which, from its inception, has been closely connected with the Karmapas, and that holds particular importance in the Golden Rosary of the Karma Kamtsang. The first Sangye Nyenpa, Drubthob Sangye Nyenpa Tashi Paljor, was one of the closest disciples of the Seventh Karmapa, Chodrak Gyatso, and root guru of the Eight Karmapa, Mikyo Dorje. The Sixteenth Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, recognized the Tenth Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche, brought him to Rumtek monastery, and enthroned him there. Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche was in the first cohort of shedra students at Rumtek monastery and studied under the direct tutelage of the Karmapa.
Because Rinpoche received the transmission of this guru yoga and the practice instructions directly from the Sixteenth Gyalwang Karmapa himself, his commentary is authoritative and of great value.
