The stream of literature is of dimension and has numerous inlets and outlets. Literary and Critical terms from the important constituents of such inlets and outlets. Knowledge in them is essential to the proper understanding of literature The present work is a precise but illuminating approach to the same and certain to prove useful to all- advanced students and the inquisitive readers of English Literature. This book is intended for higher studies in English, particularly for Honours and Post Graduate classes as also competitive examination all over India.
Professor Kalyannath Dutta, a much reputed and long experienced teacher of English, has to his credit a number of outstanding works on English literature and language, intended for Honours and Postgraduate classes. This is a newly added illuminating work form him.
The present volume claims definitely no originality in its content. While admitting that this is one more addition to the books on literary and critical terms, I crave for a distinct plea for it. Literary and Critical Terms, so important in the study of literature, is here treated as precisely and illustratively as possible, with a clear attention to the need of the serious students as also the inquisitive general readers.
Today Literary and Critical Terms are prescribed in Honours and Postgraduate Courses in a good many Universities. Knowledge in them is also much needed in higher professional and competitive examinations. Naturally I have endeavoured to make the work particularly useful and important to those aspirant examinees.
I am definitely grateful to different learned authors of the books on literary and critical terms and acknowledge unequivocally my indebtedness to them. They have given me guidance and I have paved my way with the originality of my own plan and presentation.
Finally, I should be failing in my duty, if I do not mention the name of my affectionate students, Asutosh Roy and Salauddin whose pressure and cooperation have the substantial contributions to the making of this book.
I expect to have served my purpose to the best of my ability and await thankfully favourable responses, patronage and advice from my friends-teachers and students alike.
