The book is a revaluation of Graham Greene, one of the most widely read novelist of the century. It aims at showing the conflicts in the minds of Greene's characters who slowly undergo a change as they recognize the presence of God. The author's. assessment reveals that his protagonists travel to self-realization and potential salvation via self condemnation and fascination for evil. Their hearts are usually pulled in two opposite directions by a host of conflicting motivational forces but ultimately realize the values of submission, compassion and renunciation that may lead them to salvation. With a short bio-graphical sketch of Graham Greene, the book elaborates the evolution of Greene's fictional talent; bringing into sharp focus his thematic and personative preferences, as well as his use of imagery as a major narrative device. Indu Goyal, a lecturer in English at Allahabad Degree College (University of Allahabad), has been teaching since 1996. She took her masters degree in 1980 from Rohilkhand University. She has presented many papers in National Seminars and Conferences besides she has been a counsellor at Indira Gandhi National Open University since 1988. She was awarded Ph.D. Degree for this dissertation.
