Prof. P.B. Kanna Kumar was born in a family of Sanskrit scholars and Philosophers in Sri Vaishnava sect, originally from Prativadi Bhayankaram Annangaracharyar's parampara. His parents are Sri. P.B.A. Govindarajamacharyar and Smt. P.B.A. Perindevi Tayar. His initial Guru Ustad Sayyed Pascha Saheb, in Andhra Pradesh, who was well versed in (KM) vocal and an expert in playing various types of musical instruments.
Prof. Kanna Kumar pursued his educational career in M.A, M.Phil and Ph.D. in carnatic Music from Department of Music, University of Delhi (1985-1993). He was a recipient of UGC fellowships for his research. He had advanced training in carnatic music vocal from Mahamahopadhyaya vidwan Sri T.R. Subramanyam and Prof. Radha Venkatachalam under the senior scholarship scheme given by Department of Culture, Government of India. He was fortunate to learn rare and popular kritis of carnatic music under veterans like Padma Vibhushan Dr. Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, Padma Bhushan T.N. Seshagopalan and great vidwan D.K. Jayaraman, through their workshops. He has also learnt voice modulations and other techniques specially from Dr. Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna.
He is very good at teaching Manodharma aspects like Niraval and Kalpana Swaram to his students. He is also an expert in the most difficult and creative aspect of music, Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi singing and teaching in carnatic Music. Some of his other special qualities include rendering of Keertanas of Bhadrachala Ramadas and Annamacharya with correct pronunciation of sahitya.
Prof. Kanna Kumar is an "A" grade artiste of All India Radio (Prasar Bharati) and Doordarshan, Delhi. He has toured widely in India and abroad giving successful concerts in many well known organizations and Sabhas. The clarity of Sahitya and the ability to communicate the correct Bhavam in rendering the songs, add up to his rich and melodious voice, in making his concerts a success. Prof. Kanna Kumar has to his credit a number of articles on music published in various music magazines. He has been conducting workshops and lecture demonstrations under various Government and private organisations all over India and abroad. He has also published a book on "Patnam Subramanya lyer - A Beacon Light among Post-trinity Composers". He has to his credit many cassettes, C.Ds. and private recordings.
Prof. Kanna Kumar has received many awards and titles from prestigious institutions of the country such as Kanchi Kamakoti Peetha Asthana Vidhwan, Madhura Gayakalsai Gnana sudaroli, Yuva Kalakar, Sangeeta Kovida etc. Newspapers across India have published very good reviews about his concerts.

After the Trinity period propagation of spirituality through music continued with the efforts of the Post-Trinity Composers, prominent among them being RAMANATHAPURAM POOCHI SRINIVASA IYENGAR, whose work is the subject of this book. He is also known as Ramnad Srinivasa Iyengar in the field of carnatic music.
