Ragas, the expressional means of Indian Classical Music, are presented through Compositions. Composition is the index of the raga through which, each speciality of a raga is revealed. Every raga is presented in a specific manner in each Gharana. A Gharana's special manner of presenting the composition, on the one hand enhances the beauty of a raga and on the other, it captures special features of a raga and preserves it. This work presents compositions of Senia gharana. There is virtually no work done in the field of instrumental music; with the result that a deep void has always been felt. The present work fills that vacuum to a considerable extent. The salient feature of this book is that the author has presented traditional compositions. compositions of Ustand Mushtaq Ali Khan and Pt. Debu Chaudhuri. Beside this, the author has given compositions of her own. Special features of Senia gharana ans its compositions have been dealt with brilliance through an analytical approach. This volume is indeed a valuable source of knowledge for music lovers.

Dr. Anupam Mahajan (Mrs.) is the Ganda Bandha Shishya of Padma Bhushan Pt. Debu Chaudhuri. She has been trained rigorously in intricacies of 'Senia Gharana' for over two decades under 'Guru-Shishya-Prampara'. She has also received training from her dada guru 'Sitar Sudhakar' Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan. After being groomed under such illustrious masters, she has acquired the depth of sound production and techniques and also deep understanding with respect to ragas. She is an 'A' grade artist of AIR and Doordarshan and alsoa recipient of many awards. Besides being an excellent performer the teacher of repute, she is an author, scholar and research guide. Among her published works 'Ragas in Hindustani Music-conceptual aspects' and 'Bhartita Shastriya Sangeet evem Saundarya Shasta' have been highly acclaimed and appreciated. She is working on a Major Research Project 'Process and Sources of Research in Indian Classical Music' funded by UGC. Presently, she is a senior Reader at Faculty of Music and Fine arts, University of Delhi.
