The ancient instruments (Yantra) explained in our classical books are of greater significance by virtue of their ancientness, proficient engineering, sense of precision and wider applicability.
These instruments were used in the earlier centuries for all types of pharmaceutical procedures to prepare Ayurvedic medicines. They were wisely developed with the available materials of their convenience. A keen observation into these instruments and their detailed references reveal a greater sense of meticulousness adopted in building them.
Post-independence, the industrial revolution has contributed much for the food and pharmaceutical industries. All the advanced pharmaceutical industries are benefitted in one or the other way by these ancient instruments called 'Yantra'.
Thus it becomes most essential for the pharmaceutical world of 'Ayurveda' especially for the students and the practitioners of Ayurveda to have the knowledge about the usefulness and applicability of these instruments.
Study of these instruments is a part of syllabus for Under- graduation and Post-graduation relating to the subject of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana (RSBK).
Dr. Vikram S. Prof and HOD, Dept. of PG Studies in RSBK, as I know is a dedicated and hardworking personality. He has put in his knowledge and efforts, in going through the tough Sanskrit verses that explain these instruments. And he has elaborated the same in English for the benefit of everyone interested in knowing about these instruments. I earnestly hope that this book named "Instrumentations of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana" will be a useful referral book in the field of Ayurveda in both academics as well as pharmaceutical field.
Usage of instruments brought a positive revolution in bringing up the best result using less man power, energy and time in every field. In the field of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana, whichry an inseparable field of Vaidyashastra we come across many yantras for the preparation of Aushadha dravya.
Yantras are the instruments by which the Vantrana/Niyantrana or control over the preparation of formulation can be obtained. In my 15 years of teaching experience, I found an indispensable need for a book where we get the basic information of these rare instruments which are used in the field of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana.
We come across various yantras mentioned for various purposes in shloka form from ancient text books of Ayurveda. I personally observed difficulty faced by young scholars of Ayurveda to portrait these yantras, for which here made an attempt to give a brief explanation along with its pictorial representation to clear the obstacles in constructing these yantras and make use of it; thus bringing back the ancient treasure available to all.
