An astrologer whose mind is not clear or he is unable to follow Chanakya that remains ignorant, gets tossed around like a ship without a rudder, lost at sea. I understand that without Chanakya one behaves like a scavenger roaming from place to place, collecting and feeding on dirt and rotting things never noticing the simple sacred beauty of creation.
Many Astrologers think they are fulfilling their purpose in life or things like, “I have every thing I want. Why do I need God? Who is God? I am quite happy with my life. What more can God do for me? These words are signposts of an unpurified mind. They are front gate, the doorbell, the threshold of ignorance.
A judicious application of Chanakya’s wisdom has taught me to separate milk from water. His teachings are like the conforting hand of a mother like a raft to save you from flounding in the ocean of life HE has kept me from getting lost in the dead of night.
In Mahabharta the great epic which recounts the triumph of righteousness and joy in the family and a kingdom, there is a wonderful formula for human happiness which Chanakya says, “The root of happiness is Dharma. “Chanakya’s amazing knowledge of human psychology (which an astrologer must posses) his masterly insight into every facet of human life can be seem reflected in the following maxims.
· Worship of elders is the root of humility
· With wisdom one can prosper
· Work is the root of wealth
· Nothing is attainable by the truthful
· Donation is righteousness
· The bounds of good conduct should never be crossed
· The untrustworthy should not be trusted
· Good behaviour wins even an enemy
· The low minded are fond of deception
· No one should ever be disrespected
· Don’t debate with fools
· Desire for other prosperity is the root of destruction
· Over indulgence in senses ages one fast
· One should serve a learned master
· There is no enemy equal to arrogance
· Fame is glorified by learning
· Modesty is the ornament of women
· Righteousness is the ornamental of all
· A sound intellect in a sound body
· Prosperity depends on the intellect
· Truths leads one to heavan
· Good living enhances life span reputation
· The ungreatful cannot escape hell
· There is no scripture greater than good conduct
· Women is the field of all evil
The teachings of Chanakya are the real nourishment of life. Even if years and centuries go by, even if natural calamities change the face of the plate, the teaching of the great beings spring forth anew. Or from time to time they are unearthened old treasure perhaps, but still alive with consciousness still essentials. Such teachings are never destroyed; nor does the subtle presence of such divine beings ever diminish. This is something quite reassuring to keep in mind; that which is truly precious can never be extinguished.
To make real progress in one’s astrological and spiritual practice, the grace of great being is vital, just as someone who has traversed a path can guide other’s along that same way, similarly a great being who has become completely established in the awareness of truth & bitter realities of life. In our ancient times in India, the action oriented philosophy of Chanakya has been restated by Swami Vivekanand in his memorable words “Can anything be done unless everybody exerts himself to his utmost. Great things can be achieved by right action, perservence, courage & patience”. To my mind Chanakya is a strong character and great teacher. His message is ageless in quality inspiring both for individuals and nations; a message which has countrymen from darkness to light and from poverty to prosperity. His teaching have left a great impact on my mind.
Chanakya’s wisdom contains enough illustrations to prove his farsightedness, keenness of perception and infallibility which is important for an astrologer. I am indebted to my Guru Swami S. Chandra Jee for guiding me to follow keen observation of Chanakya’s wisdom. I am also greatful to Sri S.C. Sethi without which it would have been impossible for me to offer this book to my readers.
