There is something mystical about the Himalayas. It has been the preferred destination for sages and yogis alike. In Indian culture, it is considered to be the land of the gods. It exists in the perfect harmony of peace and purity, and allows one to delve deep into the labyrinths of one's own mind. It has fascinated me ever since I was a young man and I have frequently found myself in the lap of the Himalayas over the years. The experiences, to be honest, were not always pleasant.
I was once caught in a snow blizzard on a solo winter expedition to the Everest base camp; the visibility was less than 10 metres. My son was only two months old at that time. Wet and hypothermic, I almost broke down. Would my infant son grow up without his father? That was the last thought I remember. As luck would have it, I was rescued by a Sherpa who miraculously appeared from somewhere that day. My heart was and has ever since been full of gratitude.
