The Farmans or Royal orders of Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, Nizam the VI and Mir Osman Ali Khan Nizam the VII are the most important category of the records available in State Archives which reflect the vast administrative, financial, social political, cultural and other aspects of the State of Hyderabad-Deccan.
In view of the great significance of the Farmans and its huge demand by the Research Scholars, Academicians and Historians, government, court and general public, the Archives has been undertaking the crucial work of cataloguing and printing the Farmans.
The Farmans of Nizams came in vogue from 1884, though, in 1901 A.D only it started to take shape into chicked book gradually forming it as a complete series. The catalogues are from these chicked book series. The first catalogue pertaining to the Finance Secretariat from that period was published in 2006 as Part-1 of Volume-I. Subsequently, part-II, III, IV of volume-I have been published.
The present series of catalogues (Vol. I, Part-V) comprising of 1785 Farmans of Finance Secretariat Department during the year from 1919-1931 is pertaining to the period of Mir Osman Ali Khan, Nizam the VII. With this catalogue, approximately 7700 Farmans have been published.
The Farmans, which are approximately 38,000, were issued under 14 old Secretariat departments in Classical Urdu language. The Urdu language replaced hitherto Persian language in vogue for centuries as an official language after the year 1884 A.D. owing to its popularity among the commoners.
These Farmans which are preserved in Archives reflect the substance of the personality of Nizams the VI &VII and throw light on the administration socio-economic and socio-cultural conditions of the period. The Nizam VII was a very astute administrator. Hyderabad State reached to its pinnacle on the fronts of finance, economics, education, and culture under his rule. His contribution in developing cultural efflorescence and social emancipation is unmatchable.
This catalogue will also be quite helpful to the Research Scholars and those all who are in pursuit of exploring the history of the administration of the Hyderabad-Deccan.
