It was in 2006 that the Part-1 of Volume-1 of catalogue of Farmans pertaining to the Finance Secretariat for the period of 1901 A.D. was published. Subsequently, part-II, III of volume-1 have been published.
In view of the great significance of the farmans and its huge demand by the Research Scholars, Academicians and historians the Archives has been undertaking the crucial work of cataloguing and printing the Farmans.
The Farmans or Royal orders of Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, Nizam the VI and Mir Osman Ali Khan Nizam the VII are the narratives of the vast social political and cultural life of the dominion.
Telangana State Archives is the treasure house of rare and historical records consisting of myriad of categories of documents. The category of farmans are available in separate papers, maintained in specially bound registers which are called chicked books. The 355 chicked books with approximately 38,000 farmans are pertaining to 14 old secretariat departments i.e. Finance, Political, Revenue, Education, Home and Judiciary, Army, Cabinet Council, Commerce & Industries, Executive council, Rural Construction, Constitutional Affairs, Local Government, Labour & Social Welfare.
The present series of catalogue, (Vol. I, Part-IV) comprising of 1720 farmans of Finance Secretariat Department during the year from 1917-1919 is pertaining to the period of Mir Osman Ali Khan, Nizam the VII. So far, including the present one, approximately catalogues of 6000 farmans were published.
The Farmans which are preserved in Archives reflect the substance of his personality and throw light on the administration, socio-economic and socio-cultural conditions of the period.
The Nizam VII was a very astute administrator. Hyderabad State reached to its pinnacle on the fronts of Education, economy and culture under his rule. His contribution in developing cultural efflorescence and social emancipation is unmatchable.
I am sure that catalogue will give insight to Research Scholars for further research on the era.
It is my duty to record my sincere thanks to Sri B.P.Acharya, IAS, Director General and Spl. Chief Secretary, DR MCR HRD Institute, Hyderabad for providing the financial assistance. Without extended cooperation by him, the above mentioned significant series could not have been brought out.
