Book Description

Foreword In the present scenario of Carnatic music, which has a large number of ardent followers and serious students, the publication of a book that helps in understanding Carnatic music compositions comprehensively is indeed welcome. Earlier Sri Suresh Narayanan brought out a book titled "Carnatic Music" containing the fundamental lessons, and that was at a time when there were not many publications available that would support practical learning.

Now he has prepared the book "Carnatic Music Krithis" with authentic texts and word by word meaning of selected compositions. There is no doubt that this book will help students and teachers of music alike in singing and teaching the compositions with a clear perception of their meaning. I have rendered a few of the selected compositions for the CDs to be released along with the book.

I congratulate all those who have helped Sri Suresh Narayanan in this noble endeavour especially Sri Yagneswara Sasthri, Sri Vinodkumar, Sri Sadasivan and Sri. Mohanan who have done their best in bringing out the meaning of the words and the overall import of the compositions and also Sri V.S Sharma who took up the responsibility of scrutinizing the whole work. I am sure that Sri Suresh Narayanan's passionate effort in bringing out this book and the CDs will contribute immensely to the promotion of learning Carnatic music. I wish him all the best.
