Many of us enjoy the companionship of pets. Cats and dogs depend on their owners for healthy food, veterinary care, shelter and safety. In return they give us unconditional love, affection, devotion, loyalty and friendship.

This book, written in a simple and lucid manner, deals at length with the care and management of pet dogs and cats. Especially meant for the lay readers and pet owners, it provides the basic details on various aspects of pet care like, selecting the right breed, proper feeding, importance of training as well as exercise, social behaviour, toilet training, health and diseases, vaccination, general myths, and much more.

Dr. Vinod Sharma has been working with Jeevashram Vet Hospital & Shelter since the last 13 years. He received his doctorate in veterinary science from the College of Veterinary Sciences, C.C.S.H.A.U., Hisar. Dr. Sharma received his training in Animal Welfare from the 'Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelity to Animals', UK, and clinical training in canine and feline from 'Clinic for Small Animal Surgery', University of Zurich. He has been awarded the 'Dr. Ben Weider Award' by the Young Men's Association of India.

Though there are lots of books available in the market on dogs and cats, but most of them are written for the veterinarians and those in the profession.

Keeping this aspect in mind, I decided to write a book in a simple language for the benefit of the lay persons, prospective pet owners and those already having pets.

This book tries to cover most of the details on pet care and aims to provide basic details, help and tips about the pets. The presentation of the contents has been done in a very lucid manner, and technical terms have been avoided.

I have also tried to supplement the information and details in the book with the help of photographs.

I would like to emphasise that this book is not intended to be used a substitute for a visit to the veterinarian which is a must. I hope that my professional knowledge and experience will benefit the pet owners and animal lovers through this book.
