Book Description
About The Book

I The present edition of Caraka Sarnhita is the first book in which complete Ayurvedadipika commentary of Cakrapanidatta is translated in English. Besides this few other special points of book are:

  • The translation of text and commentary is done almost in verbatim, except that any matter I repeated in commentary itself is not translated. In translating the attempt is made to convey exact connotation of the author i.e. Caraka or Drdhabala and Cakrapanidatta.

  • Allalternative readings given in footnote, except those which convey the same matter as of original text are included with alternate reading in the text. At certain places own explanation are given but those are within the brackets so that reader does not get confused or think that to be view of Caraka or Cakrap4ni. At certain places separate notes after the translation of the text are also given. Language is very simple and intelligible.

  • In order to maintain relevance and acceptability, for certain words opinion of Apte’s or & M.M.W’s Dictionaries have been used liberally which also gives better clarity.

  • The book is being presented in 2 volumes such as : Purvardha (Sutra, Nidana, Vimana, Sarira and Indriyasthana) and Uttarardha (Chikitsa, Kalpa and Siddhisthana); in both volumes Index is given.
