You (should) always do (your) duties [of being good children which include studying properly, being disciplined, being of helpful nature, etc]. Because (doing) duty (is) better (than) not doing duty. Even the maintenance of the body shall not be possible by inaction [dereliction of duty]. [Students who do not pay attention to their studies find it difficult to maintain themselves later in life].
Because no one ever remains without action even for a moment; everyone (is) forced to helplessly perform action by the very nature of the material world [your nature]. A wise person, therefore, exerts himself or herself and tries to improve one's nature. [Inactivity is not an option. If one does not do something useful, he or she will be engaged in useless or harmful activities].
O children, intelligence which leads to action here (is) one but the intelligence of the irresolute (is) many branched and open-ended. [Intelligence which causes one to remain focused on one's duty is superior, whereas a confused person does not achieve much in life. Students who consider themselves intelligent should focus on their studies and excel in it].
These acts (studying, participating in games, having hobbies and also being disciplined) should definitely be done, (that is) in this fashion but by giving up attachment to results. Dear children, (this is) My considered opinion.
[Surely what I am advocating] (is) like poison in the beginning (but) [believe Me] in result (it is) like nectar. This happiness in goodness is said to be result of superior knowledge. [To gain anything valuable requires application].
