Introduction
I am fond of tracking in the Himalayan terrain. Since 1998 I have travelled more than three thousand kilometers in Himalayan region from Karakoram Range to Eastern frontier of India. During this journey I got acquainted with hundreds of the village and numerous villagers. I had an opportunity to see the diverse cultural heritage of many communities. Especially, the lifestyle and culture of the Buddhist communities have impressed me. A city dweller realized first time in his life the true meaning of 'Small is Beautiful'. It is rightly stated by E.F. Schumacher. Meanwhile, I felt need of documentation of the universal cultural traits of these communities after revisit of few village in Arunachal Pradesh and my home state Tripura. I have realized that within a span of ten years the lifestyle of the people and their cultural attributes has changed significantly. Even identity of few com- munities is assimilated with other community. For instance, tiny community like the Zakhring and Na are no longer exists, at present they are known as the Meyor and Tagin respectively.
