Andhradesa was a cradle of Buddhism right from the Buddha's lifetime, Archaeologists have discovered more than 150 Buddhist Sites and Monuments, out of which Dhanyakataka (Amaravati) and Nagarjunakonda have attained international reputation. On priority basis twenty Buddhist Sites have been selected for developing as major tourist destinations with the co-operation the Archaeological Survey of India, Hyderabad Circle and Department of Tourism, Andhra Pradesh and categorized them into three major Buddhist Circuits for the benefit of Buddhist Tourists. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation provided necessary infrastructure and facilities at these sites.
