The Monograph 'Bronzes from the Ages' celebrates the inauguration of the Bronze Gallery on 12th January, 2003, showcasing the masterpieces of the rich treasure trove of the A.P. State Museum. The pages following introduce the reader to the history of the bronze craft, giving the sociological, religious, historical and philosophical background of the times and the different schools and styles; Buddhist, Jain, Saivite and Vaishnavite.
Indian art in its iconographic and stylistic aspects is close to life, not only to the life of the Gods but to all creatures on earth. When an image was cast, though the proportions, pose and gestures were unquestionably based on a strict metaphysical canon designed to ensure its fitness as an object of worship, within this framework, the figure was made with an understanding of actual human anatomy.
