Folk Art of Hand Block Printing Many years ago, as the story goes, women got very bored and tired of their plain white cotton clothes. So some women began using their bangles dipped in color to pattern their clothes. Carpenters saw this, and started making patterns on wood to do the same. Thus began the tradition of making blocks of wood for printing. This started almost 1000 years ago. And then the kings and queens and the royalty patronized this art, and it has flourished in India since then.
Originally natural dyes were used for printing but now chemical and artificial colors are also used. The main colors used were red, the color of love; yellow the color of spring; blue, color of Krishna and saffron, color of yogi. The main patterns are figures of animals, birds, flowers, trees and some geometrical patterns too. With wooden blocks, one can print on fabric, paper, and greeting cards and many more things.
Instructions:
Shake the bottles before use. Follow the instructions to make the printing pads out of the sponge provided inside the kit. Use the blocks to make your own pattern for printing on the fabric provided. Follow the instructions guide inside for printing. The blocks can also be used to print on T shirts, napkins, greeting cards etc.
