The Bibliography of Epigraphical Studies: 1788-2007 (Part 1), published by the Asiatic Society has been prepared with meticulous care by Sibadas Chaudhuri, who is a noted expert in preparing bibliographies and history of the Asiatic Society. This work would, no doubt, be considered highly useful by investigators of Indian epigraphs and the historians. Sibadas Chaudhuri deserves the sincere thanks of the Asiatic Society for this technical work of high value.
It gives me pleasure to present, the Bibliography of Epigraphical Studies, 1788-2007. published by the Asiatic Society of Bengal, for the convenience of scholars and research students. I believe it to be a welcome addition to the bibliographical literature on Indian studies published by the Asiatic Society, Kolkata. In spite of my best efforts, there may be lapses, which if brought to my notice, will be corrected in the next volume, with due acknowledgement.
If this volume comes to assistance to the scholars engaged in Indological studies, I shall consider my labour rewarded. I am thankful to Prof. D.C.Ghose, Prof. R.K.Chatterjee and to the staff members of the Publication Section of the Society for taking interest in the publication of this Bibliography.
In the following pages is presented a bibliography of studies on epigraphy with special reference to South-Asia. The articles were published by the Asiatic Society, Kolkata in its publications, e.g., Asiatick Researches, Journals, Proceedings, Memoirs, Monographs etc.
