It was the work of Bhavamisra one amongst the Laghutrayi during the period of 15th - 16th . century AD, it includes 426 drugs categorized into 23 vargas.

It is being reviewed by Students, Teachers, Medical practitioners of Ayurveda since the last 500 yrs.

This comprehensive work contains detailed aspects of Herbal, Mineral and Animal origin drugs.

The subject matter of BhavaprakasaNighantu has been described in simple language.

Descent number of flow charts, tables, and other important features are added in this work for better understanding of the readers.

We strongly hope the present work suits the new year wise BAMS syllabus.

Vinayak Almalkar is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Dravyaguna at SDMT'S Ayurvedic Medical College, Terdal, Dist: Bagalkot (Karnataka). He completed his post-graduation studies from Shri J.G. Co-operative Hospital Society's Ayurvedic Medical College, Ghataprabha, Dist: Belgaum (Karnataka). He has good knowledge of the subject and completed seven years of service in the field of teaching.

In ayurveda Ausadhi' (Drugs) palys an important role, physicians during treatment should possess thorough knowledge of Ausadi's (drugs), these came into existence from the time of Vedas especially Rigveda and Atharvaveda. The knowledge of drugs, preparations, uses etc are described durning Samhita period. Later nighantu have described Aushadis with their synonyms, properties and their uses in further comprehensive manner. Acharya Bhavamisra is one amongst the laghutrayas composed a classical work Bhavaprakasa, portion of this work popularly know as Bhavaprakah nighantu which includes 426 drugs in 23 vargas. It is considered to be the best amongst the existing works enhance exceedingly regarding various medicinal plant species, including Ahara vargas and Anekata varga.

In the present era research scholars engaged in constant research activities for invention of efficious and inexpensive treatment from plants.

I have assembled various aspects following different good texts written by various scholars in different languages. My attempt is made to make this work comprehensive.

This translated work deals with thorough information about nomenclature, morphology, species information, therepeautic uses, controversial aspects of various drugs, Ahara vargas etc.

This will be useful to the students, practitioners and research scholars for reference and study.

Myself and my support team perceive rich honour, if this present work gives a bit of help to students, medical practitioners of Ayurvedic Science to acknowledge and respect Acharya Bhavamisra.
