After becoming gynecologist in 1970 she got further training and qualification from UK & USA. Since 1980 she is practicing in Ahmadabad. For last 10 years she is actively involved in treating the women suffering from menopausal problems.
She is a lady, gynecologist, who has passed through menopause and she is treating menopausal women since the last 10 years. What more credential one needs to write about menopause.
Dr Kalaben has written this book for purpose of making society understand the menopause meaningfully. The method, in which the book is written, shows depth of knowledge for the subject. At forty women start marching toward menopause and male about fifty. Both male and female go towards menopause thus the couple suffers from menopause.
With the view of creating public awareness regarding menopause she started giving public talks, published several articles in magazines and newspapers and audio-visual programes for Doordarshan and Akashwani. She helped to introduce ‘Understanding of menopause” as a subject in Gujarat University for first year students. In the year 2007 she published a book “Menopause Munzavu Shane” (Menopause, no need to worry).
She very strongly believes this book is not only for those who reach forty but at twenties all should know about. To create awareness regarding menopause is a need for the society and duty of a doctor.
Menopause is a one of the important as well as worryful problem of ladies, generally after age of forty. The menopause creates physical, psychological and social problems which give stress leading to depression to such women. Considering this fact, it is very much necessary to give proper guidance to the women regarding menopause. The book written by Dr Kala Shah explains very clearly about menopause, its effects on the body mind and health including personal and social life of the women passing through this stage. Knowledge about genito-urinary changes, hormonal changes and osteoporosis has been given and required medical treatment is also suggested in a very simple way. Regular sonography, mammography and Pap’s test for prophylaxis of cancer has been also explained in detail in the context of menopause.

She continuously tries to create awareness related to women health problems and guidance. Her book focusing light on Menopause is a very useful publication for the women passing through menopausal stage. I am sure; this book will be warmly welcomed as a Guide by all women.
I wish her all success.
Menopause is an important time in woman’s life. Her body is going through changes that can affect her social life, her feelings about herself, and her functioning at work. In the past, menopause was often surrounded by misconceptions and myths. Now, it is recognized that menopause is a natural step in the process of aging. Contrary to the old-fashioned view that life is all down hill after menopause, many women today find that the years after menopause offer new discoveries and fresh challenges. Menopause is a perfectly natural occurrence in the 5th decade of life and is not a disease. As the life span of female has increased (from the 50’s in 19th century to the 70’s in 21st century), the necessity for understanding of menopause also has increased. Osteoporosis related to menopause will increase both the social and economic burden to the- society hence the knowledge of menopause from young age would be useful to the, society.
Menopause is one of the major turning point in women’s life, menopause brings both physical and emotional changes. At around the age 40, due to reduction of estrogen, there are several physiological changes in her body this causes symptoms like irregular periods, hot flashes, fatigue, vaginal-dryness, burning & pain while Urinating, joint pains and mental symptoms like depression, nervousness, tension, memory loss, sleeplessness and sometimes suicidal tendency. Women are prone to develop a number of elements like osteoporosis, heart diseases, Alzheimer disease, macular degeneration (causing blindness) and many serious health hazards that restrict her from living a normal life.
The aim of creating awareness of menopause is to make a society healthy, wealthy and wise.
“Life begins at Forty” is very true. At the same time “Manage your Menopause Meaningfully” and Enjoy rest of your Life Happily” is equally true.
